Uttar Pradesh has always focused on improving the health status & quality of living of the people residing in the state. The Department of Health and Family Welfare, Directorate of Medical & Health Services etc. are among the important stakeholders which play a crucial role in managing the overall health infrastructure of the state.
The health services and infrastructure were at their optimum performance during the COVID-19 breakout. The proceedings for the prevention of coronavirus outbreak started in the first week of March (before the first lockdown was announced on March 25, 2020).
Special training programs for frontline workers like medical professionals, police personnel, etc. were initiated. Through a Chief Minister helpline number, the village heads were asked to make villagers aware of the threat of the new virus. The government issued advisories about the DOs & Don’ts, and tips to stay healthy during this time.
The strategy and response adopted by the health authorities were highly successful and were praised by the Central Government. Cluster containment strategies of the state were highly praised which were subsequently adopted by the entire state. It aimed to contain the outbreak within defined geographical areas by making early detection and breaking the chain of transmission. This containment strategy was implemented by the Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) that comprised civic and police personnel coordinating with grassroots-level health workers, such as Assisted Social Health Activists (ASHA).
